Listener
During our initial consultation, I spend a lot of time listening to your health history, what you want to share about your lifestyle and relationships, and your attitudes about your health. I use my ears to hear, not only the facts about your symptoms, but also how you feel about being ill and any negative beliefs and thoughts you might hold. Because naturopathic medicine takes a holistic approach and acknowledges the mind/body connection, I pay special attention to what else is going on in your life and the emotional barriers that might be present in your story. I listen with my eyes to see the human being before me, and to notice possible external clues. I also listen with my intuition, based on my education, my work with many clients, and my personal health journey, to learn who you are, what’s going on, and what approach might work best for your unique situation. Most traditional western doctors spend only seven minutes on a patient’s health history. I take my time and use a “let me think about that” approach. Then I do my research, and put together a comprehensive plan to help you address what’s ailing you.
Listener Story: One patient, a nutritionist, had a good diet and was on an exercise and supplement regime, but was not able to lower her very high cholesterol level. After taking a detailed history I discovered that her father had problems with alcoholism and a sister had experienced liver cancer. I helped her identify foods to which she was allergic and she eliminated these foods from her diet. I also supported her through a seven-day liver cleanse tailored to her lifestyle and other health concerns. After three months, we retested and her cholesterol had come down to a healthy level.
